In the final year of my PhD or thereabouts, Manon van Zyl did her MSc under David Wiltshire, who was my supervisor at the time. While I had done a larger void statistics project using watershed void finding, Manon used percolation theory to find voids, and then studied them with my statistics pipeline, among other things. She only had David as a supervisor, so I had to handle any issues related to simulations, code, or data, while David had the big ideas.
Later, starting roughly while I was waiting for my thesis to be examined, Tanmayee Boddu started her MSc, also with David. Her job was to expand on my work measuring non-kinematic dipoles from raytracing in the simulations. I brought her up to speed on this and helped with understanding the data. Because I was finishing, one of the main goals was to get a knowledge transfer going so that the simulation work could continue after I left. After my PhD was finished, I continued helping out, as it was an interesting project and helped tie up a few loose ends in my work. By the end she was able to work independently and continue the project after I was gone.
I enjoyed acting as a mentor to these students and being able to teach areas I am an expert in.
